Halloween Day

The children are invited to wear orange and black for Halloween.  We will have lots of fun Halloween activities in our classroom.  Have a wonderful night with your families!

Field Trip to Saunders Farm

We had a great time at Saunders Farm!  Thanks to all of our volunteers who helped to make our day so enjoyable.  The children loved the tractor ride, the jumping pillows and the play structures. We also watched a puppet show and learned about different varieties of pumpkins.  The fresh air caused some of our little pumpkins to fall asleep on the ride back to St. Anne's.

Numbers, numbers, numbers!

We counted by 2's and by 10's.  We noticed the patterns in the 100 chart on the SmartBoard.  The children were very excited to count to 100.  Some children took on the challenge of replicating the 100 chart by placing numbers in order from 1 to 100 on the carpet.

Printing Practice

Students in our classroom are given a variety of opportunities to practice printing letters. As these pictures demonstrate, children are practicing printing their names and will soon challenge themselves to print on cards, letters, menus, create short sentences, signs, lists, and other mediums to express themselves through print.

Making Patterns

As a class we discussed how to recognize patterns and create them. The students had opportunities to come up to the Smartboard and make patterns. In addition, a variety of hands on table top activities  allow our students to explore pattern making. P. is using the unifix cubes to create his pattern, while S. made a pattern using Halloween foam cutouts. Learning a mathematical concept in a fun way!

Mixing Colours Experiment

Our students were curious about colours.  They discovered that by mixing two colours, they could create a whole new colour.  We discussed our findings as a class and created a chart to track our new colour creations.

Playing With Letters

Our students have ample opportunities to not only recognize letters but to play with them and manipulate them to make words! M. proudly displayed the rhyming words that he made using magnetic letters. Hands on activities are fun and allow children to be active in their learning!

Pumpkin Discoveries

We had fun scooping out seeds and pulp from our class pumpkins!  We had discussed the stages of the pumpkin and rolled up our sleeves for this hands on activity. A big thank you to Mrs. Senior for visiting our classroom and helping to make this activity a success! The students enjoyed tasting the baked pumpkin seeds and are proud to have our class pumpkins displayed in our class.

Five Little Pumpkins

We have been learning the Five Little Pumpkins fingerplay poem.

Five Little Pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The First one said "Oh! My it's getting late."
The Second one said "There are witches in the air"
The Third one said "But we don't care!"
The Fourth one said "Let's run and run and run"
The Fifth one said"Let's get ready for some fun"

Whoooo went the wind
And out went the lights
And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight!

Fall Fun!

Many of our friends shared their apple picking experiences with us. We decided it would be fun to taste a variety of different apples.  After choosing our favourite, we graphed the results.
